New Signage at the
Sweetwater Cabin, Ocala National Forest US Government
Recommendation by family after Annmarie's death - Fall 2006
While visiting the
Ocala National Forest please be aware of your surroundings as the forest
is home to alligators, black bears, snakes and other wild animals. When
swimming in the springs surrounding Sweetwater Cabin, remember you are
swimming in a remote wilderness area. Certain amenities associated with
more developed recreation areas are not available at the cabin.
Visitors are asked to
remember these things and take necessary precautions to insure a safe
visit.
- There
is no phone located in the cabin and access to cell phone service is
limited. In case of an
emergency Silver Glen Springs Recreation Area (352-685-2799) is
located one mile north of Sweetwater Cabin on State Road 19.
- Wild
animals live in the forest surrounding the cabin. Please do not feed
or otherwise harass the wildlife. Animals are naturally afraid of
humans but they lose this fear when people feed them.
- Weather
conditions can change at a moment’s notice. Thunderstorms,
especially during the summer season, are fast approaching and can
catch visitors off guard.
- Swimming
is allowed in the buoyed area located at the foot of the cabin.
Visitors can use the canoes provided to explore the area outside the
buoyed area. Swimming
outside the buoyed area is prohibited.
